PART II Climate Series MONDAY JULY 20 at 7:00 PM

PART II Climate Series MONDAY JULY 20 at 7:00 PM Please join presenter and moderator, Joe Meinholz, Outreach Director from the climate group MNIPL along with members of the Park Rapids Indivisible group at our ZOOM meeting on Monday.   At the meeting we will discuss the impact of the Line 3 proposed tar sands pipeline to run across Northern MN.  Here are some things to be aware of regarding Line 3.

  • This pipeline would carry 760,000 barrels of tar sands oil, each day, through its 355-mile route over Minnesota’s most pristine waters and wild rice beds.

  • Line 3 will pollute Minnesota’s waters. The pipeline makes 227 crossings of our state’s cleanest waters, and impacts over 11,000 acres of wetlands. The thick sticky highly corrosive and toxic tar sands oil is unique as it is virtually impossible to entirely remove once leaked. These pipelines always leak.

  • Line 3 will violate treaty rights, despoil treaty lands and put them at risk. The treaties of 1842, 1854, and 1855, guarantee the Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe), rights to hunt, fish, gather medicinal plants, cultivate and harvest wild rice, and preserve sacred or culturally significant sites.  These treaties are still living. Each of us has a responsibility to uphold them.

  • Line 3 will wildly fuel climate change. The oil Line 3 will carry would have a greater annual climate impact than the entire economy of Minnesota from every sector combined. Every year the pipeline runs as intended is the emissions equivalent of 50 new coal plants running year round. (Minnesota currently has 4 coal plants in its borders.)

Joe will also share short video commentary from other experts and activist’s to include:   Andy Pearson: MN350 Climate Leader and Activist for STOP Line 3   Prof. James Doyle: Physics Professor at Macalester who met with Governor Walz and other scientists calling for Science based decisions to reject Line 3. Deb Toppings White Earth Leader, Mother, Grandmother who will talk about Missing and Indigenous Women and the danger of the pipeline man camps. Dr Laalitha Surapaneni MD, MPH at the U of MN medical center will talk about the water pollution created by these pipelines and the subsequent dramatic rise in related serious illness and disease. Mary Kunesh Podein MN House of Representatives and member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe Reverend Dwight Wagenius nationally known climate activist speaker who served as assistant attorney general for MN before he became the Pastor at Mayflower UCC in Mpls. Also chair of MNIPL Board of Directors. Also actively opposes the Xcel fracked gas plant proposed in Becker.   Discussion Q & A will follow with our friends from Park Rapids Indivisible who live in the proposed Line 3 pipeline area.   JOIN OUR ZOOM MEETING: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85702474754 Meeting ID: 857 0247 4754 One tap mobile +13126266799,,85702474754# US (Chicago) +19292056099,,85702474754# US (New York) Dial by your location         +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)         +1 929 205 6099 US (New York)         +1 301 715 8592 US (Germantown)         +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)         +1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)         +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) Meeting ID: 857 0247 4754 Find your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kd9RoMjdEE
